With the final selection of the tour homes and the printing of the tour tickets, the Woman’s Club of McLean is almost ready for its 50th annual Holiday Homes Tour in December. Remaining tasks are the festive decoration of the homes and the finalizing of plans for a Homes Tour MarketPlace that will run concurrently. The tour is set for Thursday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The MarketPlace will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The tour will focus on four architectural styles, from a large, handsome 1951 Colonial in McLean’s center to three elegant, custom-designed homes on the north side of the community – two off Georgetown Pike and one off Swinks Mill Road. The MarketPlace -- at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1205 Dolley Madison Blvd. -- will feature holiday items, a variety of gifts, jewelry, home-made delicacies, lunch, vendors, tour tickets and a silent auction. There will be ample parking at the church.
The tour houses will be served by five free shuttle buses leaving Trinity Church at 15-minute intervals. However, there will be some car parking within range of the houses. Tickets for the tour will be $25 until Dec. 1, when they will be $30. They are available at Mesmeralda’s Gifts of McLean, 1339 Chain Bridge Road; Karin’s Florist, 527 Maple Ave. East, Vienna; and Great Dogs of Great Falls, 9859 Georgetown Pike. They can also be bought at the MarketPlace and the tour homes. Admission will not be required for the MarketPlace.
All proceeds of the tour and MarketPlace will be donated to local charities and nonprofits, such as Share, Inc; Alternative House, the McLean Project for the Arts (The Children’s Outreach), Claude Moore Colonial Farm, the McLean Volunteer Fire Department and Fisher House, as well as used for scholarships and education.
