Fred Amico, Langley High School principal, has sent the following letter to the Saxon Community:

“After 31 years of working as an educator in Fairfax County Public Schools, I have decided to retire at the end of this school year. Serving as principal of Langley High School has been an opportunity that I cherish. Langley High School is an outstanding high school due to the professional, dedicated, and innovative teaching staff, supportive and involved parents, and smart, creative, and inspirational students. I know that I have benefited more from my time at Langley than it has benefited from me.

Any school is just a building. Luckily, the Langley community is now getting a building they truly deserve, but it is still a building. The strength of Langley is everyone who walks the halls. Our custodians, who work tirelessly and with pride to keep the building clean and a place that is enjoyable. Our building engineer, who works behind the scenes to ensure that the building is comfortable and safe for all of us. Our security staff, who are always vigilant and watchful. The support and clerical staff, who keep things running smoothly. Our counselors, who always keep the needs of the students in the forefront of their planning. The administrators, who consistently try to do what is best for students. The teachers who work, plan, and do whatever it takes to inspire our students. Lastly, the students who are a source of joy for me every day. They consistently surprise me with their candor, humor, and intelligence. I will take countless good memories of those students with me.

Our Regional Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Tyson, will begin the process of selecting a new principal immediately. In the next few weeks, he will inform you of the process for selecting a new principal. I am confident the next principal will love the school and students as much as I do.

Thank you for the pleasure of working with your children. I wouldn’t have traded a day of my last 31 years for any other profession!
