McLean Rotary Honors Vienna Youngster
On April 3, the Rotary Club of McLean honored Noah Haefner, a seventh grader at Longfellow Middle School, for his efforts to support the McLean Stop Hunger Now project. Noah and his fellow Student Council representatives raised more than $2,600 for the next meal packaging day scheduled for Nov. 10, 2012 at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in McLean.
NASA Comes to Langley High
On Friday March 30, Langley High Students had a special speaker, NASA's Roger Hunter, Mission Manager for Project Kepler. The Kepler Mission, NASA Discovery mission #10, is specifically designed to survey our region of the Milky Way galaxy to discover hundreds of Earth-size and smaller planets in or near the habitable zone and determine the fraction of the hundreds of billions of stars in our galaxy that might have such planets. Since science operations began in May 2009, the Kepler team has released two catalogs of transiting planet candidates. So far, there are 2,321 candidates.
Childhelp to Host Fashion-Show Fundraiser

Breast Care ‘Under One Roof’
New Reinsch Pierce Family Center for Breast Health highlighted at McLean Woman’s Club meeting.
On Tuesday, April 3, representatives from Virginia Hospital Center addressed the Woman’s Club of McLean on the hospital’s new Reinsch Pierce Family Center for Breast Health. The center, which in 2011 received a significant gift from the locally based Reinsch Pierce family, is an advanced facility that offers patients all necessary medical, surgical and related services "under one roof," and has a staff specifically dedicated to breast health, according to the speakers.

The McLean Community Center’s (MCC) 8th Annual Volunteer Appreciation Reception was held on Sunday, March 25, in the Community Hall. The theme was "Italy" and Center volunteers were treated to a catered lunch by Maggiano’s Little Italy Restaurant and live music by The Wayne Tympanick Trio. The Center is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.
Six Run for McLean Community Center’s Board

Six McLean tax district residents have qualified to run for seats on the McLean Community Center’s 2012–2013 Governing Board. The board sets policy and provides general oversight for all the facilities and programs of the Center, including the Robert Ames Alden Theatre and the Old Firehouse Teen Center. The Center is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

The World’s Fanciest Rummage Sale
Ritz Carlton draws a crowd to support local charity and bargain hunt.
Shoppers queued up early outside the Ritz Carlton ballroom in McLean on Sunday in the hope of finding the ultimate bargain. Men, woman and children rushed into the ballroom to sift through the clothing and household items being billed as "The World’s Fanciest Rummage Sale." As advertised, there were low prices on high end goods throughout the elegant ballroom.
Making 2,000 Sandwiches for Martha’s Table
On Wednesday, March 21, a group of Churchill Road kindergarten, third and fourth graders, their teachers and family members made sandwiches for Martha’s Table, a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C. that serves sandwiches to those in need.
First Responders Recognized
34th Annual Valor Awards presented to police officers, firefighters.
The Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce recognized 108 of the county’s first responders Wednesday, March 21 at the 24th annual Valor Awards. Members of the Fairfax County Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, Fire and Rescue Department, as well as from the Towns of Herndon and Vienna, were given awards.
McLean Resident wins AXA/US News Achievement Award
Priya Krishnan, a McLean resident and a senior at the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology has been selected as the 2012 AXA/US News Achievement Scholar for the state of Virginia. Krishnan will receive $10,000 scholarship to college and join 51 other exceptional students from around the country in receiving this honor.

Cooper Orchestra Receives Superior Assessment Rating
The Cooper Middle School Symphonic Orchestra received a Superior (highest) rating at the District XII Elementary and Middle School Orchestra Assessment on March 10.
Roger Cole: Fond Memories of Days as a Highlander
At the end of 2011 Mclean High School inducted Roger Cole into its Athletics Hall of Fame, as part of the first class of Hall of Fame inductees ever at the school.
Girl Scouts Tour the World
Annual Thinking Day Celebration features troops presenting different cultures.
The Old Firehouse Teen Center hosted more than 150 Girl Scouts Sunday, March 18 for their annual Thinking Day Celebration. The event, which also celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts, featured displays from 11 troops examining the culture and history of a specific country.
