‘An Art Affair’ at Madeira

Students hold art auction to benefit Freedom in Creation.

On Friday May 4, The Madeira School’s African Affairs Club held its second "Art Affair," a "community-wide charity event" which raises funds for the non-profit organization, Freedom in Creation (FIC).

Google VP to Speak at The Langley School

On Thursday, May 24 at 7 p.m., The Langley School will host its Distinguished Speaker Series featuring Vinton G. Cerf, Google vice president and chief Internet evangelist. This free event is open to the public and will be held in Langley’s Jeffrey J. Sherman Arts Center at 1411 Balls Hill Road in McLean.

Vinson Hall Breaks Ground for Expansion Project

Despite the dreary weather on Monday, May 14, more than 200 people, including U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10) and Supervisor John Foust (D- Drainsville), braved the elements to celebrate and show their support as Vinson Hall Retirement Community broke ground to begin construction on a large expansion project.

Spring Hill Shares their Veggies with SHARE

As part of their nutrition study and community service requirements, Spring Hill second and third graders are growing healthy vegetables in the Raised Bed Outdoor Classroom and are donating them to the local food bank, SHARE.

McLean Orchestra Continues ‘$40,000 for the 40th’ Campaign

To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the McLean Orchestra, Wayne Winston Sharp, President of the Board of Trustees, announced a Spring Campaign to raise "$40,000 for the 40th" by the end of the season on June 30. Sharp noted that this will place the orchestra in a stronger financial position to help underwrite live classical music performances, made possible by the orchestra’s 85 professional musicians. The McLean Orchestra has been offering these concerts to growing audiences throughout the Greater McLean Community since 1971.

Washington Area Music Award (WAMMIE) winning musical group Scott Ramminger and the CrawStickers will play a wide mix of favorites and original songs on the House Stage of the McLean Community Center’s (MCC) McLean Day 2012: Celebrating Our Hometown festival on Saturday, May 19. The festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lewinsville Park, 1659 Chain Bridge Road. Festival admission is free and includes all onstage entertainment.

The McLean Community Center is offering a free shuttle service to and from the McLean Day 2012: Celebrating Our Hometown festival on Saturday, May 19. The festival will be held from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at Lewinsville Park, 1659 Chain Bridge Road.

Approaching 100 Years

Union of MCC and McLean Day is the best part of its long history.

Most of the more than 10,000 people who are expected to come to McLean Day this year can only ever remember the festival being produced by the McLean Community Center (MCC). However, for years after it began in the 1900s, McLean Day was the "step-child" of many community organizations before it was officially adopted by MCC in the 1970s.

MCC district residents are invited to come out and bring every member of the family for a fun day of outdoor activities. Dominion Sponsors Project Plant It

On Friday, April 27 at Timberlane Elementary School, Dominion employees stopped at the school to help 3rd grade students plant two trees. He tree planting culminated several weeks of instruction about the benefits of trees.
