As mothers, Jo Hicks and Susana Radice raised their children in McLean. Once their children were grown, both women decided to take their skills to the local school, Franklin Sherman Elementary School. More than 20 years and 10 teachers later, the two are still going strong volunteering with special needs preschool students.

Musicians and Patrols Get Awards

The musicianship of four students from Cooper and Longfellow middle schools was recognized by the Woman’s Club of McLean at a ceremony on Tuesday, May 1, where the students also performed on their instruments.

Growing up, Shannon Greenland of McLean wasn’t big into reading or writing. In fact, the Tennessee native dreaded every time the subjects would come up in school. It wasn’t until her 20s that she got into reading and writing as a hobby. Within a year, she had written her first novel.

Two McLean residents were recognized for their efforts going above and beyond with their time Friday, April 27 at the 20th annual Volunteer Fairfax Service Awards. Fateh Nasir, a senior at McLean High School and Julie Clemente, president of the board of the Friends of Clemyjontri Park were both spotlighted during the ceremony.

Langley High Orchestra Visits Nashville
The Langley High School Orchestra went to Nashville, Tenn. where they recorded in the RCA studio, participated in an orchestra clinic at Vanderbilt University, attended a performance at the Grand Ole Opry, and stayed in the renowned Gaylord Opryland Resort.
Weichert, Realtors of McLean Supports Food For Others
Steve Gaskins, manager of Weichert, Realtors’ McLean/Old Dominion office, announced that his staff and Sales Associates collected nearly 1,000 pounds of food and an additional $1,100 in cash donations, for the non-profit organization Food For Others, the largest distributor of free food directly to people in need in Northern Virginia.
